Two years ago, OpenAI had already developed voice cloning technology but felt the time was not right and had not publicly disclosed it. This attitude has not changed to this day - however, at the same time, they quietly did something intriguing.

Recently, OpenAI quietly acquired a small startup called Weights.gg, the exact amount and terms of the deal remain undisclosed, but the team and all intellectual property have been incorporated into the company.

What does Weights.gg do? Simply put, it built a community platform around AI models, and it had a free app called Replay, whose main feature was voice cloning. In March of this year, the company shut down all its services.

Saying "not ready to be disclosed" while quietly buying the most relevant voice cloning team - OpenAI's actions in this matter are intriguing. Are they really still waiting for the right moment, or have they already started planning the next step secretly?
