A newly disclosed document shows that the family foundation established by NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang and his wife Lori is purchasing a large amount of computing resources from the provider CoreWeave and providing them free of charge to universities and other non-profit research institutions. The cumulative value of this donation has reached $108.3 million so far.
These computing resources will be directly used to support cutting-edge scientific experiments and artificial intelligence fundamental research.
Double Support of Technology and Funds
In addition to providing hardware computing power, NVIDIA also stated that it will provide free engineering technical services to some recipient institutions. This means that researchers can not only obtain high-performance GPU computing power but also receive professional guidance from NVIDIA engineers to optimize model training efficiency and solve complex technical problems.
Deepening the Partnership with CoreWeave
This donation is not only an act of charity but also reflects the deep commercial ties between NVIDIA and the cloud computing company CoreWeave:
Equity Investment: In January of this year, NVIDIA invested $2 billion in CoreWeave, becoming its second-largest shareholder at the time.
Capacity Guarantee: NVIDIA signed a $6.3 billion cloud capacity agreement with CoreWeave last year, committing to purchase any unsold cloud capacity.
