Recently, productivity software giant Notion has announced the launch of a new developer platform, further advancing its entry into the era of AI intelligence. During a live product launch event, Notion's co-founder and CEO Ivan Zhao stated that Notion is no longer just a collaboration note-taking tool but will now become a central hub connecting AI agents, external data sources, and custom code, allowing teams to efficiently build automated workflows.

Notion first introduced the custom agent feature in February, enabling users to create AI assistants to handle repetitive tasks such as answering common questions, writing status updates, and automating workflows. Since then, over one million AI agents have been created by Notion users. However, these agents had certain limitations when it came to connecting to external data and using custom logic, forcing users to use third-party automation platforms or write their own scripts to solve problems.

To address this issue, Notion has launched a cloud environment called "Workers," which allows teams to run custom code in a secure sandbox. Users can synchronize their logic code with Notion and create custom tools. At the same time, Notion's database synchronization feature can pull data from any API database, making it easy for users to connect to data sources such as Salesforce, Zendesk, and Postgres, greatly enhancing the real-time capabilities of Notion databases.

In addition, Notion also allows users to chat directly with external AI agents, assign tasks, and track progress, as if these agents were built-in assistants within Notion. Currently, Notion supports agents from partners such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Decagon, with more support planned for the future.

Overall, Notion's developer platform marks a significant strategic shift, moving from a simple application to a programmable platform, gradually transforming into a core infrastructure that integrates AI agents, custom code, and real-time data. This transformation not only aligns with the current demand for automation in knowledge work but also sets Notion apart in the competitive workflow automation platform market.
