On April 22, Cambricon held its 2025 annual earnings conference. In response to the competitive pressure brought by AI chips developed in-house by internet giants, Chen Tianshi, chairman and general manager of Cambricon, gave a positive response, emphasizing that the company's products, with their "general-purpose" design, have stronger versatility in dealing with diverse artificial intelligence technologies.

Chen Tianshi analyzed that internet giants usually have a clear closed-loop logic when developing AI chips, mainly providing vertical industry solutions around their core business or specific application scenarios. By contrast, Cambricon's strategic positioning is to provide platform-based products featuring "cloud-edge-end integration, software-hardware collaboration, and training-inference fusion." Its general-purpose intelligent chips are designed for diversified scenarios such as vision, speech, natural language processing (NLP), and traditional machine learning, meeting different industry customers' differentiated size and performance requirements, and offering broader ecosystem compatibility.

The background of this conference was Cambricon's first profitable annual report since its listing. According to the 2025 financial report previously released, the company achieved total revenue of 6.497 billion yuan, an increase of 453.21% year-on-year; net profit attributable to shareholders was 2.059 billion yuan, successfully achieving a turnaround from loss to profit. While experiencing rapid growth in performance, Cambricon also responded to supply chain security, stating that it will ensure capacity assurance under the backdrop of rising large model computing power demand through continuous R&D investment and long-term collaboration with upstream and downstream partners in the supply chain.

Industry analysis points out that as computing power demand spreads from internet giants to traditional manufacturing, healthcare, and autonomous driving sectors, the boundaries between general chip suppliers and in-house chip manufacturers will become clearer. Cambricon aims to consolidate its core position as the fundamental computing power foundation in the wave of domestic substitution by strengthening the "versatility" of its general chips.
