According to the latest announcement on Google's official blog, this expansion covers Asia-Pacific markets such as Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. The feature will be gradually available to eligible users starting April 20, 2026. The feature is currently supported on desktop versions of Chrome and iOS versions of Chrome (iOS users in Japan are not supported at this time).

Core Features of Gemini in Chrome

  • Personalized Browsing Assistant: Users can directly interact with Gemini in the address bar, quickly summarize long web pages, compare information across multiple tabs, significantly improving browsing efficiency.
  • Deep Integration with Google Services: Without switching pages, users can schedule Google Calendar meetings, check Google Maps locations, draft and send Gmail emails, or ask questions about YouTube videos through Gemini, achieving seamless multi-app collaboration.
  • New Image Processing Capabilities: With the new Nano Banana2 feature, users can input text prompts in the Gemini sidebar to directly convert or edit images on web pages.
  • Personal Intelligence (Personalized AI): Gemini can remember previous conversation contexts, providing personalized answers tailored to individual needs, further enhancing the intelligence of web browsing.

Google emphasized that the feature was designed with security in mind, with the model specifically trained to identify threats like prompt injection, and it will proactively request user confirmation before performing sensitive operations.

Usage Requirements and Notes

According to a supplementary note from the Chrome official X post, to use Gemini in Chrome, users must log in to their Google account and be at least 18 years old. Some advanced features, such as "Auto browse" (automatic browsing), are currently only available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States. Asia-Pacific users can access Gemini-related features directly through Chrome browser settings or the address bar.

This expansion marks an important step for Google in advancing AI-powered browsing experiences. Previously, Gemini in Chrome was launched in some regions, and now its coverage has expanded to more Asia-Pacific countries, benefiting hundreds of millions of users, making daily internet usage smarter and more efficient.
