Meta announced on March 10, 2026, the acquisition of Moltbook, a social collaboration platform designed specifically for AI agents. According to the agreement, Moltbook's founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr will join the Meta Superintelligence Lab (MSL), led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang. Although the exact acquisition amount has not been disclosed, the transaction is expected to be completed by mid-March, and existing users can continue to use the service during the transition period.

Moltbook, which launched in early January this year, has been regarded by the industry as the "AI agent version of Reddit," aiming to build an experimental ecosystem where artificial intelligence programs can connect, coordinate, and complete tasks together. The core intention of Meta's acquisition lies in obtaining the identity verification and registration system developed by the team. This technical framework allows intelligent robots to verify their identities and securely bind their operational behaviors to their human owners, thereby establishing the necessary trust foundation in an agent-based ecosystem.
Although previous research indicated that the actual number of active agents and the level of social interaction on the Moltbook platform were lower than expected, Meta clearly values its exploratory potential in machine-to-machine (M2M) interaction standards.
This strategic expansion follows OpenAI's hiring of Peter Steinberger, the developer of the agent framework OpenClaw, and signals that global technology giants are accelerating their competition to shift from single-model development to building agent ecosystem infrastructure. As large model capabilities evolve toward autonomous action, establishing standardized agent identification and collaboration protocols has become a critical path towards general artificial intelligence (AGI). By integrating Moltbook's identity registration mechanism, Meta aims to build more predictable social collaboration capabilities for its smart assistant system, further solidifying its leading position in the open-source agent ecosystem.
