According to the latest survey report "2026 State of the Games Industry" released by Informa Tech, the organizer of GDC (Game Developers Conference), the resistance toward artificial intelligence (AI) among game professionals is spreading at an unprecedented speed. Among more than 2,300 industry professionals surveyed, 52% clearly stated that AI has had a negative impact on the industry.
Looking back at data from the past three years, this pessimistic sentiment has shown a sharp upward trend, while the proportion of professionals with a positive view of AI is rapidly decreasing.
The survey shows that developers are most concerned about AI eroding core positions that require high creativity. Here are the specific areas considered to be most negatively affected:
Art Design: 64%
Game Design and Scriptwriting: 63%
Programming Development: 59%
Ironically, these are precisely the fields where many game developers are currently pushing for AI solutions. The contradiction between frontline employees and management is becoming increasingly prominent.
