Google is working to completely transform the user's search experience, shifting it from traditional web link navigation to a more intelligent AI-driven model. Through a series of major upgrades, Google Search is becoming more like a comprehensive AI chatbot, rather than just a search engine.
Google has announced the introduction of the latest Gemini3 model for its AI Overviews (AI Overview) feature. The core of this upgrade is to enhance the interactivity of the search, allowing users to "seamlessly" ask follow-up questions to ensure that the search can answer any question in the user's mind.

If the brief summary provided by AI Overviews does not meet your needs, users can now easily switch to a new AI Mode (AI Mode).
Switch on demand: Google Search product vice president Robby Stein said, "Provide quick snapshots when you need them, and in-depth conversations when you want them."
Easy to use: According to a test video shown by Stein last year, switching between the two modes is very simple, and users can complete the transition by scrolling and typing.
This move marks a shift in the search paradigm. In the past, the main purpose of search was to direct users to third-party websites; now, Google tries to let users solve problems within the search page through AI mode. This "seamless follow-up" capability makes the search experience feel indistinguishable from using an AI chatbot.
