OpenAI officially launched Prism, an online collaboration platform designed specifically for researchers. Powered by the latest GPT-5.2 model, the platform aims to completely solve the pain point of frequently switching between multiple software during scientific writing through integrated tool flows.
OpenAI's research found that advanced science and math users are highly active on ChatGPT, with message volume about 3.5 times that of regular users. To address this, Prism integrates a text editor, LaTeX compiler, PDF reader, reference manager, and AI chat interface. The platform is built upon the previously acquired cloud-based LaTeX platform Crixet, supporting real-time multi-user collaboration, allowing research teams to share cloud space simply by sharing a link.
In terms of core capabilities, Prism integrates the GPT-5.2 "Thinking" model, which can assist researchers in reasoning complex scientific problems, reconstructing mathematical formulas, or polishing paper paragraphs. In addition, it supports automatic conversion of hand-drawn whiteboard sketches into LaTeX diagrams, automatic literature citation organization, and voice editing intelligent functions.
Currently, Prism is available to free ChatGPT individual users, and will be gradually rolled out to paid plans such as Business and Enterprise in the coming weeks. OpenAI expects 2026 to be the year of efficiency transformation in the research field, and Prism is a key step in reducing the "friction cost" of research.
