In the global wave of artificial intelligence transforming the labor market, an Indian vocational training startup named Emversity has taken a different approach, focusing on cultivating practical talent that AI finds difficult to replace. According to a report from Yahoo Finance today, the company has completed a $30 million Series A funding round. This round was led by Premji Invest, with participation from well-known institutions such as Lightspeed Venture Partners, increasing the company's valuation to $120 million, doubling its value from April of last year.
Currently, India is facing a severe skills gap, with many graduates holding degrees but lacking practical skills. Emversity's core strategy is to fill the "gray-collar" job vacancies in key service sectors such as healthcare and hospitality. These positions, such as nurses, physical therapists, medical laboratory technicians, and housekeeping staff, rely heavily on interpersonal communication, hands-on operation, and certification, making them "safe zones" against AI automation.
Emversity's operating model is unique: it not only collaborates with 40+ campuses and 23 universities to integrate employer-designed training programs into degree education, but also operates government-affiliated skill centers, offering short-term certifications and employment placement services. Founder Vivek Sinha previously served as the Chief Operating Officer of India's education technology giant Unacademy. He keenly recognized that even job seekers with MBAs or doctorates often lack competitiveness when facing urgent positions requiring on-site practical skills.
AIbase believes that Emversity's success lies not only in the favor of capital, but also in its precise positioning of the "automation safe zone." In today's fast-paced technological changes, by strengthening offline practical training and establishing channels between schools and enterprises, the company is building a stable blue-collar talent supply chain for the world's most populous market.
