According to AIbase, OpenAI began its expansion at the start of 2026 by officially completing the acquisition of Convogo's development team, a business software platform. Convogo originally aimed to automate leadership assessments and feedback reports through AI technology, helping executive coaches, consultants, and HR teams free themselves from tedious paperwork. Although the platform had accumulated thousands of coach users and partnered with top global leadership development companies, its existing products will be gradually discontinued after this stock-only transaction.

An OpenAI spokesperson clearly stated that the core of this transaction was not to acquire Convogo's intellectual property or technology, but to absorb its core talent. The three co-founders, Matt Cooper, Evan Cater, and Mike Gillett, will all join OpenAI to work on the AI Cloud business. In their statement, the Convogo team mentioned that their original goal was to bridge the gap between AI model iterations and real-world applications, and joining OpenAI would allow them to more broadly focus on improving the accessibility of artificial intelligence for professionals across industries.
This transaction marks OpenAI's ninth acquisition in the past year. Looking at its acquisition history, except for collaborating with Jonny Ive's io Products to develop hardware, OpenAI has mostly followed an "acqui-hire" model, integrating outstanding teams to accelerate internal capability enhancement while shutting down the original products of the acquired companies. The arrival of the Convogo team once again highlights how OpenAI is rapidly accumulating high-level talent through active acquisition strategies in a competitive market.
