According to The Guardian, in 2025, over 150 anonymous YouTube channels spread false anti-Labor videos using cheap artificial intelligence tools, with a total of more than 1.2 billion views. These channels used false and inciting content to profit from political divisions in the UK. According to a study, these channels accumulated 5.3 million subscribers and produced more than 56,000 videos.

The study shows that the main target of these channels was the current Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with his name mentioned as many as 15,600 times in video titles or descriptions. One channel called "Britain News-night" even claimed that Starmer and Chancellor Reeves were facing arrest, while another channel "TheUKPoliticalBrief" claimed to reveal "explosive truths" about immigration crimes. Another channel "UK NewsCore" claimed that Starmer was "live-streamed fired."
Although some videos and channels have been removed by YouTube, when The Guardian contacted YouTube, all 150 channels were immediately taken down. The research institute Reset Tech stated that the existence of these channels reveals a global trend of synthetic propaganda on the Internet, using low-cost AI tools to quickly produce content for profit.
The study also found that similar channels are operating in countries such as Germany, France, Spain, and Poland, targeting other political figures or issues. A total of 420 problem channels were identified operating in Europe. Although these channels are mainly driven by British speculators seeking to profit from political divisions, their existence still poses a threat to public trust.
A Labour Party spokesperson said that the rise of online misinformation is a serious threat to democracy and called on online platforms to take more effective measures to address the issue. Dylan Sparks, the UK director of Reset Tech, emphasized that YouTube needs to act faster to stop the spread of malicious content.
YouTube stated that they strictly enforce community guidelines and have already deleted more than 2.1 million channels violating the rules. In response to the monetization of harmful and misleading content, the government has established an online advertising working group.
