Google announced on Tuesday a series of Android 16 updates, with the first features launching on Pixel devices. This update marks a major shift in how Android updates are released, as Google will no longer limit itself to one major update per year, but instead implement a more frequent release strategy.

One of the new features in Android 16 is an AI-powered notification summary. This feature condenses long messages and group chat content into concise, easy-to-read overviews. Additionally, the "notification organizer" automatically groups and mutes lower-priority notifications, such as promotional messages, news, and social reminders.

In terms of personalization, users can now access custom icon shapes, themed icons, and even automatically enable dark mode for apps that do not have a native dark theme, providing a better visual experience. Additionally, new parental control options in the Android settings allow parents to set screen time limits for their children, create rest schedules, and manage app usage.

This update also includes some new features not specific to Android 16. For example, a new test feature called "Call Reason" allows users to mark calls to saved contacts as "Emergency," which will appear on the caller's screen, indicating the urgency of the call. If the call is missed, the "Emergency" tag will still be retained in the call log.

Google also introduced the "Expressive Subtitles" feature, which displays the emotion of voice through tags such as [Sad] or [Happy], whether it's a video message or a post on social media. This feature allows users to understand the full context of the content even when it's played silently.

Additionally, Google improved how it identifies and exits unnecessary group chats. When a user receives an invitation from an unknown number to join a group chat, they will receive key information about the group, allowing them to quickly reply, leave, or block and report the number. Meanwhile, the fixed tab feature in Chrome browser is now the same as the desktop version, making it easy for users to find previous browsing pages.

To enhance security, Google updated the "Circle Search" feature, allowing users to search by circling, drawing, scribbling, or clicking on their phone. After initiating circle search, the AI summary will show whether the information might be a scam.

In terms of accessibility, Google enhanced the "Guided Frame" feature in the Pixel Camera app to provide more detailed descriptions, such as "a girl in a yellow T-shirt sitting on a sofa watching a dog." Additionally, users no longer need to physically touch the phone; they can simply say "Hey Google, launch Voice Access" to start using voice control.

Furthermore, Google introduced a quick pairing feature compatible with hearing devices from multiple brands under Danish company Demant.
