According to sources, AI startup Anthropic is in talks to acquire Bun, a code runtime service provider, with the deal potentially valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. If finalized, this would mark Anthropic's first acquisition since its inception.

The two parties have been collaborating for more than six months, and Anthropic has thoroughly evaluated Bun's technology and team. After the acquisition, Bun's high-performance JavaScript runtime and management tools will be integrated into Anthropic's code agent product, Claude Code, aiming to significantly reduce latency and failure rates in large code tasks.

Claude Code currently supports natural language generation, refactoring, and debugging of code, but its reliance on runtime environments has led to instability in long tasks. Bun's engine is known for its "millisecond cold start + native TypeScript," which can speed up Claude Code's batch generation and testing processes by about 40%, while reducing cloud resource costs by approximately 30%.

Industry insiders believe that acquiring Bun will address Anthropic's shortcomings in the "code execution layer," giving it a more complete toolchain to compete with GitHub Copilot and OpenAI Codex. The transaction is still in the due diligence stage and is expected to be completed as early as Q1 2026.
