Google is introducing more powerful AI features to the Chrome browser. The new tab in the latest version of Chrome Canary now has two new buttons powered by Gemini AI: "Nano Banana" and "Deep Search", allowing users to generate images and conduct topic research directly in the search bar.
These two new features are located below the "Ask Google" search bar, aiming to help users quickly start creative or information retrieval tasks without leaving the tab.

Nano Banana is an image generation feature that connects to Google's latest generative AI model. After clicking it, the search bar will automatically switch to a "Create Image..." prompt, allowing users to directly input the description of the image they want to generate.
Deep Search is used for information searching and topic research. After clicking it, the search bar will display a "Help me find..." prompt, and the system will use Gemini AI to generate structured and expandable research results for the user.
Currently, these two features are still in testing, and some versions may experience instability. Google is also testing an interactive feature called AI Mode, which allows users to ask more complex questions and receive brief and coherent AI responses on the browser's homepage.

The Chrome team is turning the new tab into an "AI Launch Screen," where users can generate images, organize research information, and even use open web pages, images, or files as context to provide more semantic clues for AI queries in the future.
Industry experts believe this update signifies that browsers are evolving from "search entry points" to "AI workspaces," laying the foundation for future intelligent web interactions.
