Recently, Anthropic announced the launch of Claude for Excel, aiming to further expand its applications in the financial services sector. This update enables Claude to serve as an AI assistant for financial professionals, especially those who use Microsoft tools. Claude for Excel is currently in the research preview testing phase, and users can interact with Claude directly through the Excel sidebar.

With this new feature, Claude can read, analyze, and modify workbooks, and every change is clearly tracked and explained. This feature is particularly helpful for users to debug formulas, generate financial models, and create new spreadsheets from scratch, saving analysts a significant amount of time that would otherwise take several hours to complete.
This Excel integration is an important addition to Anthropic's existing partnership with Microsoft. Users can not only create and edit Excel and PowerPoint files in the Claude app but also search for information within Microsoft 365, including emails and Teams conversations. Additionally, some Claude models are embedded in Microsoft Copilot Studio and Researcher Agent.

To promote the use of the new feature, Anthropic invited 1,000 early users from the Max, Enterprise, and Teams tiers to test the Excel add-in, with plans for broader promotion in the future.
In addition to the Excel functionality, Anthropic also launched new connectors that allow Claude to access real-time financial data. These connectors include integrations with platforms such as Aiera (for earnings call transcripts), LSEG (market data), Moody's (credit ratings), and Egnyte (secure document access). More data sources, such as Chronograph, Third Bridge, and MT Newswires, further enhance Claude's capabilities in portfolio monitoring, valuation, and research.
Anthropic also released six pre-built agent skills designed for financial professionals. These skills can help generate discounted cash flow models, conduct due diligence, prepare company profiles, and compile startup coverage reports. These updates are based on the outstanding performance of Sonnet 4.5 in financial benchmark tests, scoring 55.3%, providing more comprehensive support for banks, asset management companies, and investment firms, covering front, middle, and back-office functions.
