Meta is accelerating the deployment of generative AI on social platforms. Recently, the company officially introduced AI-powered photo and video editing features directly into Instagram Stories, allowing users to add, remove, or completely transform visual content by simply entering text prompts.
Previously, Instagram's AI editing features were limited to interacting with the Meta AI chatbot. This update integrates the editing interface into the Stories experience, allowing users to access it by clicking the "Restyle" menu at the top. By entering commands such as "change hair color," "add a crown," or "insert a sunset background," the system can instantly generate the corresponding effects.

In addition to custom prompts, Meta also provides a series of preset style options:
Add accessories to photos (such as sunglasses, motorcycle jackets)
Apply artistic filters (such as watercolor style)
Add dynamic effects to videos (such as snowfall or fire scenes)
However, Meta also reminds users that using the AI editing feature means agreeing to its AI service terms - this means the company can analyze images and facial features uploaded by users to generate or modify content. In other words, each editing operation may become a data source for Meta to continuously improve its generative models.
This feature launch marks another step forward for Meta in the "AI creative tool war" against competitors such as TikTok, Snapchat, and OpenAI ecosystem applications.

Recently, Meta has also been testing the "Write with Meta AI" feature on Instagram, which can automatically generate creative comments for posts. Additionally, last month, the company launched the "Vibes" video push feature in the Meta AI app, allowing users to experience AI-generated short videos. According to Similarweb data, as of October 17, the daily active users of the Meta AI app have increased from about 775,000 to 2.7 million, more than tripling.
To address concerns from parents and regulators, Meta has also introduced parental control tools, allowing parents to disable interactions between teenagers and AI characters and monitor the content topics of conversations with Meta AI.
As these updates are gradually rolled out, Instagram is evolving from a social platform into a new AI ecosystem that combines creative generation and personal expression.
