According to Wired magazine, OpenAI is preparing an independent social media app, which is expected to be called "AI version of TikTok." This new app will be based on the upcoming Sora2 video generation model, allowing users to scroll through vertical short videos, but all content will be AI-generated, and users will not be able to upload any photos or videos from their phone albums.
It is reported that the design concept of this app is similar to TikTok, but with some unique restrictions. First, the video length generated by Sora2 within the app is limited to 10 seconds. In comparison, TikTok's initial video limit was 15 seconds, later extended to 10 minutes. Therefore, OpenAI's move may be aimed at focusing more on concise and succinct content dissemination. As for whether there will be different time limits for external use, there is currently no clear information.
The new app will also provide an identity verification feature, allowing users to choose to verify their identity, so that Sora2 can use the user's portrait when generating videos. In addition, other users can also tag these verified users when doing secondary creation, using their portraits. This feature will greatly enhance interaction between users.
For security reasons, OpenAI will send a notification when using a user's portrait, even if the generated video is not public. Additionally, regarding copyright issues, the new app will take certain measures to refuse generating some specific content. However, OpenAI will require copyright holders to actively request exclusion; otherwise, such content may appear in videos generated by Sora2.
By introducing social features, OpenAI hopes to retain users and prevent them from turning to other video generation models. Once users leave, it may mean abandoning the community and social network they have built within the app.
Previously, foreign media reported that OpenAI is developing the Sora2 model, aiming to enhance competitiveness against Google's Veo3, striving to become a leader in the field of video generation. With the upcoming launch of this app, AI-generated short videos may usher in a new trend.
