After successfully launching its most intelligent and practical GPT-5 series model to date, OpenAI has comprehensively reviewed and upgraded its existing ChatGPT AI chatbot model. This upgrade marks the official departure of ChatGPT from previous complex model versions such as 4o, 4.1, 4.5, 4.1-mini, o4-mini, o4-mini-high, and fully enters the GPT-5 era.
According to user feedback, in the current usage process, regardless of whether the original chat was based on 4o, 4.1, 4.5, or various mini versions, it will automatically open in the GPT-5 model, providing users with a more intelligent and smooth interactive experience. At the same time, OpenAI has made detailed distinctions for different model versions: chats using the o3 model will open in GPT-5-Thinking, while chats using o3-Pro will open in GPT-5-Pro (this feature is only available for Pro and Team plan users). It is worth noting that the voice mode is still supported by the 4o model, ensuring stability and familiarity for users in voice interactions.
This upgrade is not just an update of the model version, but also a comprehensive unification. OpenAI has reorganized the ChatGPT model system based on whether the model has thinking capabilities and the different scales (such as nano, mini, regular, pro), making it easier for users to understand the differences and characteristics between different models during use.
For free and Plus plan users, this change takes effect immediately, allowing them to immediately experience the intelligence improvements brought by the GPT-5 model. Pro and Teams plan users will be gradually adjusted, although they can temporarily access some old models within a limited time through settings, which also provides them with sufficient transition time to better adapt to the new model.
In terms of information sending limits, OpenAI has made detailed regulations. Free ChatGPT users can use the GPT-5 model for free, sending 10 messages every 5 hours; after exceeding the limit, it will automatically switch to the GPT-5mini model. In addition, free users can send one GPT-5Thinking message per day. Plus users have the right to send 80 messages every 3 hours, and after exceeding the limit, it will also switch to the GPT-5mini model; Plus and Teams users can send 200 GPT-5Thinking messages per week. It is worth noting that switching automatically from GPT-5 to GPT-5-Thinking does not count towards the weekly limit, and after reaching the limit, GPT-5 can still switch to GPT-5-Thinking, ensuring continuity and flexibility in the user's usage process.
For Pro and Teams subscription users, they enjoy the privilege of unlimited access to the GPT-5 model without worrying about message sending limits. This move will further solidify OpenAI's leading position in the AI chatbot field, providing users with a higher quality and smarter service experience.
