During the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), 77-year-old "father of AI" and double winner of the Turing Award and the 2024 Nobel Prize, Geoffrey Hinton, made his first visit to China. His every move and views have attracted widespread attention.

AI, artificial intelligence, robots

On the morning of July 26, Hinton's speech at the opening ceremony of WAIC quickly went viral on social media. He expressed concerns about the possibility of artificial intelligence surpassing human intelligence in the future and warned humans to avoid "raising a tiger as a pet."

In the afternoon of the same day, Hinton reappeared at the Frontiers of Science plenary session, where he had a dialogue with Zhou Bowen, Director of the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. In this dialogue, he further elaborated on his views on AI risks, stating that in addition to researching more intelligent AI technologies, we also need to explore how to make AI "good." Although he acknowledged that such technology has not yet emerged, it is undoubtedly an important direction worth further exploration.
