AWS will launch an AI agent marketplace next week, with companies like Anthropic becoming its key partners.

According to insiders, the AWS agent market will officially be launched at the AWS Summit in New York on July 15. This market will provide a platform for startups to sell AI agents directly to AWS customers, while also allowing enterprise customers to browse, install, and find the AI agents they need in one place.

Solving the Industry Fragmentation Problem

Currently, the AI agent market is fragmented, with most companies offering services independently. AWS's new initiative aims to address this distribution challenge by providing a unified solution for the market.

An AI agent is a computer program that can make independent decisions and perform tasks using backend AI models, and has become a focus for Silicon Valley investors. AI giants such as OpenAI and Anthropic see it as the next major growth area in the technology sector.

Anthropic Gains Significant Opportunities

As a key partner of AWS, Anthropic is expected to gain significant momentum from this market. The company has received support from Amazon and is reportedly about to secure another investment of several billion dollars.

The AWS marketplace will help Anthropic reach more customers, including those who may be using AI agents from competitors such as OpenAI. At the same time, this will attract more developers to use its API to create agents, further increasing revenue. Anthropic's annualized revenue reached $3 billion by the end of May.

Business Model and Market Competition

The market adopts a pricing structure similar to SaaS products, allowing startups to charge customers directly for agents, while AWS takes a percentage of the revenue. Although this income is relatively small, the potential for opening up new revenue sources and attracting customers is significant.

AWS is not the first tech giant to launch an agent market. In April this year, Google Cloud launched an AI agent market; in May, Microsoft introduced the Agent Store in Microsoft 365 Copilot; enterprise software providers such as Salesforce and ServiceNow also have their own agent markets.

However, the actual success of these markets for small AI startups and enterprises seeking specific AI agents remains to be seen. AWS's entry into the market will bring more variables to this emerging industry.
