Recently, OpenAI has once again confirmed that it will launch GPT-5 and plans to integrate multiple powerful models into a more unified version. According to OpenAI, GPT-5 is expected to be released in the summer.

Currently, ChatGPT has various powerful models. Although they each have their own advantages, the use of the same name causes confusion for users. In addition, OpenAI has also launched the "O series" models, which focus on reasoning capabilities, while the 4o and other models have multimodal functions.

OpenAI stated that the goal of GPT-5 is to merge the breakthrough technologies from these two series, providing the best functional experience. Romain Huet, head of developer experience at OpenAI, said: "We are very excited not only to launch a new cutting-edge model, but also to unify our two series. The reasoning breakthroughs from the O series and the multimodal breakthroughs from the GPT series will be integrated into GPT-5. I look forward to sharing more information soon."

In addition, OpenAI mentioned that GPT-5 will significantly improve the performance of existing models across all aspects and reduce the need for users to switch between different models. Jerry Tworek, vice president at OpenAI, said in a Reddit post: "GPT-5 is our next foundational model, designed to make everything our current models can do better and smoother in use."

Although the exact release date of GPT-5 is still unclear, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hinted that the model will be released in the summer.
