Google is actively integrating its latest AI assistant, Gemini, into the Chrome browser, aiming to provide users with a smarter and more convenient browsing experience. This feature, similar to Microsoft Edge's Copilot, boasts a unique design by Google.

According to browser researcher Leopeva64's analysis, a preliminary version of the Gemini AI assistant is currently available in Chrome Canary (Google's experimental browser). Users can customize Gemini's launch method in the settings, including setting hotkeys and menu display. When the user clicks the toggle button, the Gemini icon appears next to the window's control icons; clicking it launches the AI assistant in a floating window. This design not only provides convenient access but also allows users to get instant AI assistance during browsing.

Compared to Edge's Copilot, Gemini differs in its layout. First, the Gemini icon is located at the top of the window, not in the menu bar or toolbar. Second, Gemini's floating window design allows it to remain active without obscuring browsing content. While this floating design is still under development, Google plans to optimize it in future versions to better integrate the AI assistant into the user's browsing environment.

Beyond browser integration, Google plans to extend Gemini's functionality to the taskbar. Users can choose to display the Gemini icon in the system tray for readily launching the assistant from the taskbar. The assistant will offer various features, including voice search, ensuring users can easily access the information they need while browsing. Crucially, Gemini will still run through Chrome, similar to Copilot's reliance on Edge.
This move by Google will undoubtedly provide users with a smarter browsing experience. The addition of Gemini AI may change how we use browsers, making the intelligent assistant a valuable tool for every user.
