Recently, Google has started testing an AI-driven video editing application called Vids. Currently, this application is exclusively available for test personnel at Workspace Labs and is expected to be launched for paying users later this year. Reports indicate that the application quietly went live and began testing last Friday, featuring full functionality.

Powerful AI Video Editing Features

Google Vids integrates the Gemini large model, which assists users in creating slides, writing video scripts, and sourcing materials from Shutterstock. It also provides a storyboard for the entire video production. Users can edit videos by adding or removing slides, text fields, images, and audio elements, and finally export them as MP4 files.

This feature is accessible within the Google Docs document processing tool. After creating a new project, users need only to describe the video topic or desired effect in a few sentences and can also request AI to use specified files from Google Drive as source materials. Compared to the pre-launch hype in April, the currently launched test version is temporarily missing the AI voiceover feature.

User-friendly and Easy to Get Started

In April of this year, Kristina Behr, Vice President of Product Management for Google Workspace collaboration applications, said: "Our philosophy is that if you can create slides, you can also create videos in Vids without any video production experience." This philosophy greatly lowers the barrier to video production, making it easy for more users to start.

The launch and testing of Google Vids not only showcases its powerful AI technology capabilities but also further enriches the Google Workspace suite, providing users with efficient and convenient video editing tools. In the future, as more features are improved and launched, Google Vids is expected to become a helpful assistant for video creators.
