On September 29, OpenAI announced the launch of a new large model and its own AI agent "Dots" during the Developer Day. The company is reshaping ChatGPT, which has 120 million weekly active users, into an integrated distribution platform that combines software discovery, invocation, and operation through a series of underlying component upgrades, directly challenging the traditional app store model.
By expanding its plugin-supporting architecture, ChatGPT can now accurately identify user needs in conversations and automatically bring up interactive panels from third-party applications such as Figma and Adobe, enabling seamless in-app operations. Combined with the newly launched "Login with ChatGPT" identity authentication system, users can carry their existing AI quotas across applications. It has already integrated 16 platforms, including Devin, Notion, and Vercel. Additionally, users can share workflows with teams via lightweight web pages generated by ChatGPT, which include independent permissions and personalized experiences.

In terms of ecosystem building, OpenAI officially launched an enterprise application market, gathering more than 30 top enterprise partners, including Salesforce, HubSpot, and CrowdStrike, and allowing eligible customers to use OpenAI quotas to offset collaboration software costs. At the same time, the platform has significantly upgraded its application review mechanism, supporting developers to track progress in real time, request manual intervention, and submit partial updates, further improving the infrastructure of developer services.
The core technological breakthrough of this release is the autonomous AI agent "Dots." This agent is equipped with a dedicated cloud computer and browser, and has already connected to over 4,000 application ecosystems. Under the read-only mode authorized by users, Dots can not only perform complex operations such as website building and meeting arrangements across applications based on natural language instructions, but also actively conduct project research, advancement, and bug fixing, completely overturning the traditional application interaction logic of "search-download-use."
Although OpenAI has not yet announced revenue sharing or billing standards similar to traditional app stores, it has essentially established an AI-native application distribution network that bypasses Apple and Google systems through a unified identity layer, redefining the software discovery mechanism, and introducing autonomous AI agents. This strategic move marks the deep evolution of the software interaction paradigm from "graphical interface-driven" to "intention-driven" based on large models.
