According to The New York Times, as the AI craze sweeps Silicon Valley, a wave of tech co-living housing for entrepreneurs and engineers to live, work, and socialize has quickly emerged. These residences, known as "hacker houses," have become important social venues in the AI industry, but some luxury homes have also left behind numerous police records due to frequent parties, sexual harassment, and rape allegations.

The Most Famous AGI House: 37 Police Records and Sexual Assault Allegations

AGI House, located in Hillsborough, a wealthy town in California, is one of the most representative ones. This Mediterranean-style mansion has 8 bedrooms and an area of about 16,700 square meters, adjacent to a golf course. Google co-founder Sergey Brin once gave a speech there, and singer Grimes also performed on stage.

Since 2022, local police have recorded 37 incidents related to this residence, at least 17 of which involved complaints triggered by large gatherings and events. Last December, a woman reported that a male resident of AGI House persistently asked for sexual relations after multiple rejections, and she eventually jumped over the gate to escape, with no physical injuries. In 2025, police received at least four requests for safety checks of the residence's occupants. The current manager, venture capitalist Rocky Yu, said he was unaware of these police records and refused to respond further; he stated in court documents that he has been trying to reduce party activities and get rid of the "party house" image of AGI House.

Today, such residences attract residents with the concept of "promoting artificial intelligence and human progress," and residents are mostly founders of startups and engineers from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. Some single rooms cost up to $10,000 per month, with waiting lists exceeding 40 people. The AGI House website states that it is connected to a venture capital fund and has support from former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and investor Marc Andreessen, who said his representative had not participated in the project.

From Entrepreneurial Utopia to Party Mansion

AGI House was originally named NeoGenesis, created by former Google researcher Jeremy Nixon in 2022, with OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy also involved in its founding. After the release of ChatGPT, Nixon renamed it AGI House, envisioning 20 developers living together and holding weekend programming events continuously. However, the mansion later frequently hosted luxurious parties: at a "Paris Midnight" party, guests arrived by carriage and an Eiffel Tower model was set up on site, while another event even arranged a car flying over the venue.

Frequent activities caused dissatisfaction among neighboring residents. Between 2023 and 2024, police recorded at least 8 noise and traffic congestion incidents; in November 2023, the municipal department issued a notice to stop disturbances, warning that the frequency of events had increased to several times a week, possibly violating restrictions on commercial activities.

Less than two miles away from AGI House, there is another AI party mansion of about 557 square meters, which held a "mermaid" pool performance and a Mayan mural jungle-themed party. From late 2021 to 2024, it received more than 20 complaints, with records including "possible kidnapping" and an incident where the owner was beaten, with a claim of over $200,000 in damages. Another residence named Genesis also faced issues: in December 2021, a woman reported a sexual assault by a former resident, and the case is still under investigation, with the previous landlord claiming losses of more than $60,000 after moving out.

Amid the controversy, AGI House continues to operate. According to its public schedule, next month it will hold a 10-hour "Living Internet" development event and arrange a poker night.
