Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman posted that John Trenor, the current Senior Vice President of Apple Hardware Engineering, will officially take over as CEO on September 1st local time, and artificial intelligence will be his top priority during his tenure.

Apple has already held a gathering for the outgoing Tim Cook on August 23rd at Apple Park, with about 200 people attending and a live performance by the band OneRepublic; according to the plan, Cook will transition to the position of Executive Chairman of the Board and continue to handle matters such as communication with global policymakers.

A Veteran in Hardware Takes the Helm, the First Launch is Already a Test

Trenor was born in 1975 and joined Apple's product design team in 2001. He was promoted to Vice President of Hardware Engineering in 2013 and became Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering in 2021. During his time at Apple, he was responsible for the hardware engineering work of many groundbreaking products across various categories, making him a typical veteran technocrat.

The first tough challenge before him is coming quickly: Apple will hold its fall new product launch event on September 9th (1:00 AM Beijing Time on September 10th). The theme of the event is "Surprise Shines." This will be Trenor's first launch after officially taking over. It is expected to introduce the new iPhone 18 Pro/Max and the Ultra series foldable phone. Hardware will still be the main focus at the beginning, but whether he can turn AI into a new narrative is what the market really wants to see.
