The Second World Humanoid Robot Sports Games opened grandly at the National Speed Skating Oval "Ice Ribbon" on the evening of August 22. This event is jointly hosted by the Beijing Municipal Government, China Media Group, the World Robot Cooperation Organization, and the Asia-Pacific Robot Soccer International Council, attracting 666 teams and 2056 robots from 16 countries across six continents to compete. Compared to the first event, the number of participating teams has increased by 138%, and the number of robots has even quadrupled, demonstrating the rapid development of embodied intelligence.
As the opening ceremony was just getting underway, there were frequent reports of breaking human limits. In the men's 100-meter large group preliminary round, the Tian Gong Ultra from the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center crossed the finish line first with a time of 9.39 seconds, successfully breaking the 9.58 seconds men's 100-meter world record held by Bolt. The best time for this event in the previous inaugural competition was only 21.50 seconds. Subsequently, Tian Gong robot also won first place in the men's 400-meter large group preliminary round with a time of 39.70 seconds, surpassing the human men's 400-meter world record of 43.03 seconds; and in the high jump event, it jumped an astonishing 2.8843 meters, greatly breaking the human record. At the same time, the humanoid robot "Lightning" also ran 41.95 seconds in the men's 400-meter large group track event, smoothly breaking the human world record.
This year's sports games emphasize more on intelligence and independent decision-making capabilities. Many competitions have eliminated manual remote control and changed to full autonomous operation throughout. During the athletes' entrance and display segment of the opening ceremony, various leading teams showed their hard-core skills: 80 Accelerated Evolution Booster T2 humanoid robots marched in neat steps, independently adjusted their postures and formed arrays to spell out "BEIJING"; 50 Tian Gong Body Intelligence 3.0 robots passed curves in unison and completed the difficult "Thomas Turn"; 25 Galaxy General Wheel-type Robots Galbot G1 completed fully autonomous long-distance complex continuous tasks in home, retail, and catering scenarios, and their dexterous hand world model achieved the global first of robot self-rotation of pens and other generalized hand dexterity operations.
Looking at the overall competition items, the number of events has expanded from 26 in the first edition to 51, covering 30 competitive events and 21 scenario events, totaling 1301 matches. Among them, the competition has added high-intensity confrontation events such as long jump, weightlifting, tug-of-war, and table tennis, and the scenario events cover real-world fields such as industry, logistics, hotels, homes, and fire rescue, and have set specialized dexterous hand events such as powder weighing, tweezers picking beans, and bottle opening and lid lifting.
In terms of participants, domestically, 641 teams with 1975 robots from 157 companies, 200 universities, and research institutions have participated, including the active participation of 27 985 universities. Internationally, traditional robot powerhouses such as the United States, Germany, and Japan are competing together, and Brazil has even gathered five robot football World Cup champion teams to form a national team. It is reported that after the competition, the "Ice Ribbon" will be transformed into a permanent training base to provide regular daily training support for all teams.
