Alexa+ on Amazon is once again "competing" to add new skills.
Last Monday, Amazon officially announced a major update for Alexa+: support for on-demand generation of podcast programs. This new feature, called "Alexa Podcasts," is now available for testing to users in the United States. As Amazon puts it, its goal is straightforward — "turn any topic you're interested in into a personalized podcast in just a few minutes."

The usage barrier is almost non-existent: users just need to say to Alexa+ "make a podcast about XX," without uploading materials, writing scripts, or planning in advance. AI will automatically research the topic, collect information, generate content outlines, and quickly provide an overview of what this episode will cover. Users can also adjust the length, tone, and content focus at any time, customizing their own audio content like building with blocks.
After confirmation, Alexa+ will use the AI-generated host voice to read the program. Once the podcast is completed, users will receive a notification through Echo Show devices or the Alexa App; all generated podcasts will also be automatically saved in the "Music" and "More" sections of the App, making it easy to listen back and revisit whenever needed.
This is not just "adding a new function."
It marks that Alexa+ is quietly evolving from a traditional voice assistant that "answers questions and controls home appliances" into a personalized AI creative partner that "understands your interests and can create content." When voice interaction meets content generation, the boundaries of smart speakers are being redefined.
Of course, the new capabilities also come with new controversies.
Are the AI host's voices natural enough? How is the accuracy of automatically generated content guaranteed? Will it impact traditional podcast creators? These are topics currently being widely discussed in the industry. Especially when the topics involve news events or professional fields, users have higher requirements for the reliability of information.
In response, Amazon has already taken "precautions": emphasizing that it has established partnerships with multiple authoritative news organizations, including Associated Press, Reuters, The Washington Post, Time, Forbes, Politico, USA Today, as well as more than 200 local newspapers across the country. Through these collaborations, Alexa+ can access real-time and reliable sources, improving the quality and factual accuracy of content at the core level.
Even more worth noting is that the podcast is just the beginning.
