The competition in the field of artificial intelligence is spreading to the underlying toolchain. According to IT Home, the AI large model unicorn Anthropic recently announced a successful acquisition of the software infrastructure startup Stainless. Although the official did not disclose the final transaction details, multiple industry sources indicate that the deal has exceeded 280 million euros, equivalent to about 2.218 billion yuan.
Stainless, founded in 2022, plays a key role in the AI industry's development ecosystem. Its core technology is the automation of creating and maintaining software development kits (SDKs). Through this platform, developers can directly convert API specifications into deployable tools, and it is fully compatible with mainstream programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, and Java.
Blocking Competitor Toolchains
The biggest highlight of this technology is that when external interfaces change, the platform can automatically update the code. This significantly reduces the time programmers spend manually maintaining code and also lowers maintenance costs for teams relying on external interfaces.
Before this acquisition, the automated tools provided by Stainless were part of the shared infrastructure in the industry. Now that it has been officially integrated into the Anthropic system, these core tool resources will become internal exclusive assets, and external competitors will no longer be able to share them.
Industry Structure Facing Reconfiguration
As a result, Stainless has confirmed the closure of all its hosted products and will no longer provide the original automated generation services to the outside world. Although existing customers still own the code libraries they previously generated, they will no longer be able to receive official technical support and updates in the future.
This transaction's strategic significance clearly goes beyond ordinary commercial acquisitions. Companies such as OpenAI and Google were previously important customers of this platform. Anthropic's move undoubtedly secures key connection capabilities for AI agent development in advance, giving its own product iterations and external software collaboration stronger control.
