Streaming giant Netflix is secretly building a new animation studio called INKubator (or simply INK) internally. The studio's core focus is "GenAI-native," aiming to use AI technology to produce short-form animations and content of movie-quality standards.

LinkedIn information shows that the department was quietly launched in March 2026. Led by Serrena Iyer, who previously held strategic and operational roles at renowned production companies such as DreamWorks Animation, MRC Studios, and A24. Netflix is currently hiring extensively for this department, seeking producers, software engineers, and CG artists.

Technical Vision: AI-Powered Entire Process

According to job postings, INKubator's mission goes far beyond experimentation:

  • GenAI-Native Pipeline: Focused on developing workflows, artist tools, and scalable, secure cross-series production environments that support generative AI.

  • Movies-Grade Goal: Job postings clearly state the goal is to develop content of "feature-quality."

  • Difference from InterPositive: Earlier this year, Netflix acquired Ben Affleck's AI startup InterPositive, but that company focuses more on post-production, while INKubator aims to build an AI-driven creative process from scratch.
