Recently, the South Korean government signed an important memorandum of understanding with DeepMind, a subsidiary of Google, marking the start of in-depth cooperation between the two parties in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). According to reports, the agreement between the Ministry of Science and Technology of South Korea and DeepMind mainly focuses on joint AI research, talent development, and the responsible use of AI.

The core of this collaboration is the National Science AI Research Center, which will be launched in May. The establishment of this research center aims to promote technological breakthroughs in eight fields, including biology, meteorology, and climate, to enhance South Korea's competitiveness in the global AI field. This project, called "K-Moonshot," was launched by the South Korean Deputy Prime Minister for Science and Technology, Pyeong Kyu-sun, in March this year. Its goal is to tackle national challenges and elevate South Korea's international standing in AI technology, especially in the face of competition from China and the United States.
In addition, both sides will strengthen cooperation in fields such as biotechnology, meteorology, climate, and AI scientists. To ensure smooth cooperation, the South Korean government and DeepMind plan to establish a working group that will hold regular video conferences and an annual in-person meeting to maintain communication and collaboration.
This collaboration is not only aimed at promoting scientific research but also provides a broader platform for AI talent development in South Korea, helping to shape the direction of future AI technology. As the cooperation deepens, more innovative projects and results are expected to be achieved, bringing new opportunities to address global technological competition.
