OpenAI has officially launched the new "Workspace Agents" research preview feature, marking a significant leap in ChatGPT's evolution from a conversational assistant to an autonomous "digital employee." Currently, this feature is available first to Enterprise, Edu, Team, and educator users.

As a deep extension of the custom GPT functionality, the core advantage of Workspace Agents lies in their strong autonomy and connectivity. Supported by Codex computing power, these agents run entirely in the cloud environment. Even when users are offline, they can continue processing tasks in the background according to pre-set logic. More importantly, the agents can integrate context across platforms and directly interact with third-party office tools like Slack, enabling automated workflow between multiple applications.

In practice, users do not need programming skills. Through the newly added "Agents" section in the ChatGPT sidebar, users simply need to describe business processes in natural language, and the system will automatically break them down into specific steps and guide users to connect the required tools and skills. To make team collaboration more efficient, these agents not only have memory functions but can also correct deviations during interactions with people, achieving self-optimization through long-term use.

To demonstrate its practical value, the official listed several typical application scenarios. For example, in finance and IT fields, agents can automatically review software requests and submit tickets; in marketing, they can monitor public forums and social media in real time, organizing scattered user feedback into prioritized summaries; additionally, they can autonomously retrieve data to generate weekly reports, even conduct customer surveys, score potential clients, and automatically update CRM systems.

Currently, OpenAI provides mature templates for popular areas such as finance, sales, and marketing, helping enterprises deploy quickly. Considering enterprise-level security needs, the management console has also updated refined permission controls and monitoring features.
