Perplexity, a leader in AI search, officially launched its Personal Computer app on April 17th. This AI assistant designed for Mac not only understands commands but also has the ability to directly access the file system and native applications, marking a deep advancement in AI interaction from "chat interface" to "operating system."

This tool can be activated by pressing both Command keys simultaneously and supports dual interaction methods of text and voice. Unlike traditional cloud-based assistants, it can sense the user's currently active window in real-time and proactively provide operational suggestions based on context, significantly improving multi-tasking efficiency.

Personal Computer has the unique ability to perform tasks across applications, automatically organizing messy download folders or comparing local documents with online information. It is supported by a team of over 20 cutting-edge large models, ensuring accuracy when handling complex logic.

To achieve the best experience, Perplexity recommends running it on a Mac mini device to maintain continuous online status 24/7. Users can even remotely manage tasks on their Mac through an iPhone, making their personal computer truly evolve into an intelligent server capable of working independently.

Security Sandbox Ensures Privacy Transparency

While offering open permissions, Perplexity has designed a strict defense mechanism for the assistant, completing all operations within an isolated security sandbox. Users can monitor the AI's actions in real-time and have full control to intervene, cancel operations, or force a stop at any time.

Currently, this feature is being pushed to Max subscription users who pay $200 per month. Although the threshold is high, the "autonomous driving" office model it demonstrates is setting the tone for a new form of human-computer collaboration in the future.
