Recently, according to the Science and Technology Board Daily, a leading domestic large model company, Moonshot AI, plans to launch a new multimodal model in the first quarter of 2026 (tentatively in January or March). The model is expected to be named K2.1/K2.5, and will achieve further breakthroughs in multimodal processing and agent (Agent) capabilities.

This new product is an upgrade of Moonshot AI's first open-source trillion-parameter model, Kimi K2. Since its release in July 2025, Kimi K2 has performed well in code generation and general tasks with its mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture. Subsequent versions will extend the context length to 256K and introduce the Thinking model that supports "thinking and collaborating with tools simultaneously." This upgrade indicates that the Kimi series of models will have stronger performance in understanding visual, audio, and other multidimensional information.

In addition to technical reserves, Moonshot AI's financial situation also provides ample confidence for continuous R&D. Founder and CEO Yang Zhilin revealed in a recent internal letter that the company currently has more than 10 billion yuan in cash reserves. In comparison, other domestic AI companies such as Zhipu and MiniMax are also actively accumulating funds and preparing for IPOs, reflecting the intense competition in the current large model field.
