On December 30, there were reports that Zhou Guorui, Vice President of Kuaishou Technology and head of the foundational large model and recommendation model, is about to leave the company. This information comes from multiple independent sources. Notably, Zhou Guorui may choose to join Meta (the parent company of Facebook) or TikTok (the international version of Douyin). According to the current internal status within the company, he is on leave, and his email signature has been changed to "Log Out," which seems to indicate that he is about to embark on a new career journey.

Zhou Guorui has a strong technical background. He earned his master's degree from the Pattern Recognition Laboratory at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Before joining Kuaishou, he worked at Alibaba, where he served as a senior algorithm expert in the Alimama business unit, responsible for ranking-related tasks in targeted advertising. In 2021, Zhou Guorui joined Kuaishou and was quickly promoted to Vice President of Recommendation Algorithms and head of the foundational large model and recommendation model. Under his leadership, Kuaishou introduced an innovative end-to-end architecture called "OneRec," successfully restructured the recommendation pipeline. This achievement enabled Kuaishou to achieve a breakthrough in core business scenarios, achieving "larger models with lower costs," significantly reducing system costs and improving the intelligence and efficiency of the recommendation system.

Notably, Kuaishou's technology team has experienced multiple personnel changes over the past two years. Several months ago, another technology vice president, Zhang Di, left the company and briefly joined Bilibili before returning to Alibaba. Additionally, Wang Ben, the head of the international e-commerce algorithm team at Kuaishou, and several other vice-presidential-level algorithm experts have also left successively. These series of changes have drawn attention to the issue of talent loss within Kuaishou's technology team.

Zhou Guorui's departure may impact Kuaishou's technological development and optimization of its recommendation system, and his next move is also under close scrutiny. Whether he chooses to join Meta or TikTok, it will become a focal point of industry attention.
