Former Chief Scientist at OpenAI, Andrej Karpathy, has decided to take a unique approach to reflecting on the past. His latest experiment focused on 930 discussions from Hacker News in 2015, using modern artificial intelligence technology to automatically rate them. This work not only demonstrates the power of AI but also raises important thoughts about the future of public expression.

In a blog post on December 10, Karpathy shared his experimental process. He scraped all the posts from the Hacker News homepage for one month in December 2015, then used the OpenAI API to analyze, rate, and summarize the "most visionary" and "most absurd" comments. This process was completed through "GPT5.1Thinking," which took Karpathy about three hours, and he open-sourced the results for public access.

In this experiment, he raised a thought-provoking idea: "Be a good person, the future LLM is watching you." This statement implies that every word we say in the future may be scrutinized in detail. With technological advances, our public expressions will become searchable and auditable. The traditional "cost of speaking" will thus be redefined, and people's behavior may face stricter supervision.

Karpathy's experiment is not just a casual project. In a previous article, he explored the concept of "verifiability," arguing that in the future, artificial intelligence will be able to evaluate and optimize our speech and actions. As he said, much of the content in public discussions will turn into computable objects, which will help us better predict the future.

He has also reflected in recent articles on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human intelligence. Karpathy believes that current AI is more like the "ghost" of human documents, rather than a "living being" with survival instincts. This metaphor makes it easier for us to understand AI's strengths in language imitation and task execution.

Through this experiment, Karpathy not only demonstrated the potential applications of AI but also proposed new thoughts on the interaction between humans and intelligent agents in the future.
