In a recent event, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman shared with Jony Ive, former chief designer of Apple, the vision for a new AI device they are developing. This device is envisioned as a "screenless" portable tool designed to provide a calmer and less distracting computing experience.

Altman said that when people first see this new device, they might be surprised because its design is very simple. He mentioned that the inspiration for this device came from his reflections on modern technology devices, believing that current smartphones and apps are filled with various distractions, similar to the flashing lights and noise one faces while walking in Times Square, New York. He stated that this environment has not made our lives more peaceful, but rather caused frustration.

In contrast, Altman hopes that the new device will filter out distracting information and provide users with the information they need at the right time. He hopes users will gradually trust this AI device, allowing it to play a role in their lives over a long period, with strong contextual awareness capabilities.

Ive added in an interview that the design philosophy of this device is "simple but not simplistic," hoping it will bring a sense of familiarity to users in terms of visual and tactile experience, making them use it unconsciously, as naturally as using a tool. Ive revealed that this device is expected to be released in two years, aiming to bring a new user experience.
