Amid the surge in global demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure, OpenAI has partnered with Oracle to launch the "Stargate" project, a $500 billion initiative. The first data center of this project has officially commenced operations in Abilene, Texas. This data center is filled with Oracle's cloud infrastructure and NVIDIA's high-performance computing chips, marking an important milestone for the future development of artificial intelligence in the United States.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the construction of infrastructure has become particularly important. According to the latest report from HSBC, there are currently more than $2 trillion in planned artificial intelligence infrastructure projects worldwide. As an industry pioneer, OpenAI's launch of the "Stargate" project is undoubtedly a significant milestone. In addition to this project, OpenAI has also reached a venture capital investment agreement with NVIDIA, and it is expected that investments in data centers will increase further in the coming years.

The first data center in Abilene has started operating and is expected to expand further, with a potential capacity of over 1 gigawatt, which is enough to supply power to about 750,000 American households. OpenAI's Chief Financial Officer, Friel, said: "People are beginning to realize that to meet the future needs of artificial intelligence, we need enormous computing power." She mentioned that they are currently facing a computing crisis and urgently need to build more infrastructure to support the development of artificial intelligence.

In addition to the data center in Abilene, OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank plan to add five new sites in Texas, New Mexico, and Ohio. These new projects will increase the total scale of the "Stargate" to nearly 70 gigawatts, and the investment is expected to exceed $40 billion within the next three years.

Although Oracle is providing funding for the construction of these data centers, Friel stated that OpenAI will eventually bear the operational costs of computing power. NVIDIA, on the other hand, will gain revenue from its provided graphics processing units (GPUs). This series of investment plans demonstrates OpenAI's ambitious vision for the future.

Notably, the name "Stargate" not only represents the current project but will also be used for all of OpenAI's future infrastructure developments. Additionally, Oracle stated that the project will create nearly 1,700 long-term jobs and employ more than 6,000 construction workers daily, further promoting local economic development.
