Recently, Google announced that it will introduce two new AI image editing features based on Gemini for its Google Slides and Google Vids platforms. These new features aim to help users more easily handle image backgrounds, allowing them to replace or expand them with simple and quick operations.

The first feature allows users to completely replace the background of an image through simple text prompts. Users just need to select an image, then right-click "Edit Image" or click the "Generate Image" icon, and then choose "Replace Background" in the pop-up side panel. Here, users can enter what they want to replace, and the system will automatically generate a new background. Google said this feature is particularly suitable for placing products in real environments or for unifying the background of employee avatars.

The second feature is to expand the image background. Users also need to select an image, then click the "Generate Image" icon in the side panel, choose the expansion feature, and then select a new aspect ratio, such as 16:9 or 4:3. The system will provide multiple options to fill the background. This feature enables users to convert small vertical images into large horizontal banners without distorting the original image.

The release schedule for these features is also quite detailed. For domains participating in Google's Rapid Release Program, updates will begin on July 28; for other regular release users, they are expected to be fully available on August 14. These two features will benefit many Google Workspace subscribers, including Business Standard, Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Plus editions, as well as users with Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, AI Pro, or Ultra plugins. At the same time, users with older versions of the Gemini Business and Enterprise plugins can also use these features.

It is worth noting that Google announced earlier this year that it will integrate multiple AI features into Workspace subscriptions without additional fees for Gemini plugins. These features include image background removal, Studio Look in Meet, Studio Lighting, and Studio Sound enhancements, further improving user efficiency.
