Court documents reveal that OpenAI and Microsoft executives privately admitted that their AI can replace media articles, threatening the news industry. The evidence comes from sealed documents in the New York Times' copyright lawsuit against the two companies. The lawsuit was filed in December 2023, accusing the companies of training models using millions of articles without authorization. In March 2025, the judge dismissed most of the motions to dismiss, allowing the core copyright claims to proceed.
