Recently, according to a report by U.S.-based CNBC, Meta Company and EssilorLuxottica Group jointly launched a new pair of smart glasses. The product is expected to cover several luxury brands such as Prada and Oakley. These glasses will be equipped with the latest generative AI technology, aiming to provide consumers with a more upscale wearing experience.
Meta posted an Instagram account named "Oakley|Meta" on social media and previewed that the new product would be officially unveiled on June 20. This series of smart glasses will mainly target sports enthusiasts. Meta has observed that many Ray-Ban users use smart glasses to take pictures in scenarios like playing tennis or skiing. Based on this discovery, Meta decided to focus more on active consumer groups.
It is understood that the smart glasses of the Oakley series are expected to cost around $360 (approximately RMB 2,586). Compared with the Ray-Ban series, the new model has improved durability and will adopt a similar technical configuration to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses released in 2023. Informants revealed that specific details of the new product have not been publicly disclosed yet, but it is expected to attract attention from many sports enthusiasts.
EssilorLuxottica Group, headquartered in France and Italy, owns multiple well-known brands such as Ray-Ban, Oakley, Vogue Eyewear, and Persol, and has established authorized cooperation relationships with over 150 global brands. The collaboration between Meta and the group began in 2019, and the first generation of Ray-Ban smart glasses was launched in 2021. With the second-generation product equipped with Meta AI voice assistant released in 2023, market recognition gradually increased. This new version can recognize landmarks, analyze ingredients, and obtain recipes after connecting to a smartphone, while also supporting sending voice messages via WhatsApp and Messenger.
Notably, Meta and EssilorLuxottica plan to release the third-generation smart glasses before the end of this year. This new pair of glasses is expected to be larger in size and may integrate a small display into the lenses, providing users with more functions.
