Last December, Pat Gelsinger, former CEO of Intel, ended his 40-year career at the semiconductor giant, and many were eager to speculate on his next steps. Recently, this industry leader revealed his next move: dedicated to ensuring that artificial intelligence models effectively promote human flourishing and development.

Gelsinger partnered with Gloo, a company he invested in ten years ago, to launch a new benchmark called "Flourishing AI" (FAI). This benchmark aims to test the alignment of artificial intelligence models with some key human values. The FAI benchmark was inspired by the "Global Flourishing Study" led by Harvard University and Baylor University, which aims to measure human well-being around the world.

In this study, the Gloo team identified six core categories: personality and virtues, close social relationships, happiness and life satisfaction, meaning and purpose, psychological and physical health, and financial and material stability. In addition to these six categories, Gloo added a special category: faith and spirituality, which will be used to evaluate the performance of large language models.

During an interview with The New Stack, Gelsinger said that he has lived at the intersection of "faith and technology" all his life, which has given him a deep understanding of the relationship between technological development and human values. He hopes that the FAI benchmark will drive artificial intelligence technology toward a direction that benefits human well-being.

The launch of the FAI benchmark not only marks an important innovation in the technology field, but also sets new standards for future artificial intelligence development. Gelsinger expects that this benchmark will guide AI technology users to pay more attention to consistency with human core values, ensuring that the application of technology can truly bring long-term benefits to humanity.
