In the field of artificial intelligence, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is going all out to recruit top talents from OpenAI and Google DeepMind. According to reports by the foreign media TechCrunch, Meta has even offered salaries up to $100 million to attract these experts, including staggering signing bonuses. This move aims to find suitable talent for its newly established superintelligence team.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed this news in a podcast interview. He admitted that although Zuckerberg offered such generous compensation, almost none of OpenAI's top members accepted the invitation. Altman expressed relief, stating: "Meta indeed offered astonishing packages to many people on our team, but so far, our best members have not accepted such invitations."

He further analyzed that OpenAI employees rejected Meta's high-salary poaching because they had greater confidence in OpenAI's future, believing that the company was more likely to achieve general artificial intelligence and attain higher commercial value. Additionally, Altman pointed out that Meta's pursuit of salary while neglecting the company's mission and culture is detrimental to the formation of an innovative atmosphere.

It is understood that Meta attempted to poach core researcher Noman Brown from OpenAI and Koray Kavukcuoglu, the head of Google AI architecture, but ultimately failed. Altman stated that OpenAI's success lies in its continuous innovation capabilities, while Meta's current AI projects have not met expectations. He candidly admitted: "I still respect some aspects of Meta, but I don't think Meta excels at innovation." In his view, for companies to take the lead in the AI race, merely catching up is insufficient; true breakthroughs are required.

Although Meta continues to make efforts in recruitment, Altman believes that real competitiveness does not solely come from generous salaries but also from a commitment to innovation and mission. Who will dominate the AI field in the future may depend on each company's true strength and creativity.
