Candela previously served as the Preparation Manager. To realize its vision for artificial intelligence, OpenAI is fiercely competing with other rivals in hiring engineers and developers. For example, Meta Platforms recently announced an investment of over $14 billion in the startup Scale AI, which also brought the company's CEO, Alexander Wang, to join Meta.
In this competitive context, OpenAI is also actively expanding its team. Last month, the company appointed Fidji Simo, the CEO of Instacart, as the head of application business, and CEO Sam Altman stated that this appointment aims to help the company scale during its next phase of growth. Additionally, OpenAI acquired an artificial intelligence hardware startup founded by Apple designer Jony Ive for $6.4 billion.
Since a year ago, OpenAI has also hired Sarah Friar, who previously served as the CEO of Nextdoor and the CFO of Square, as the CFO. Meanwhile, competitors in the industry such as Google and Amazon are also expanding their AI teams and products. Candela said his goal is to help build an excellent employee team that is highly aligned with the company's mission, ensuring that the company can maintain close ties with the values of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) while growing rapidly.
